Nature discoveries in Saint Jean de Monts

The forest of Saint Jean de Monts is a magnificent setting for nature walks and discoveries. The Pays de Monts state forest stretches along the 25 km-long dune between Fromentine in the north and Sion sur l’Océan in the south. It is no more than 2,300 metres wide and covers a total area of 2,280 hectares. Here you can learn to recognize and differentiate between different types of pine and identify the tracks of wild animals.

The heronry – A curiosity of the Pays de Monts state forest. In a privileged setting, grey herons and little egrets live side by side. The timid flight of the young and the bickering between these two species will delight you. La Héronnière has a total of over 900 nests. Maritime pines, with an average height of 20m, can contain up to ten nests per tree from April to early June.

Le Belvédère – accessible via the footpath that runs alongside the golf course, it can also be reached from the route de la Parée Jésus (parking level with the tennis court). From this vantage point, you can see the sea and the golf course of Saint Jean de Monts from the forest (see panoramic view). Take advantage of our guided nature walks, with or without GPS.
