The Breton marshes of the Vendée
The Breton marshes of the Vendée region are rich in biological diversity. With its 45,000 hectares of wet meadows and polders, criss-crossed by canals and drained by étiers, this ancient gulf is a veritable jewel. Thanks to its micro-environments, it boasts rare flora and fauna, as well as a wide variety of migratory birds, including redshanks and avocets. The marsh is regulated by freshwater hydraulic systems, according to the rhythm of the seasons and the tides. It has preserved its environment, traditions and deep-rooted history.
